Materials You’ll Need

  • 24-gauge copper sheet – medium-soft
  • Copper rivets
  • Metal scissors or tin snipe
  • Electric drill
  • Rivet gun
  • 1-inch wooden ball – round
  • 1-inch wooden disk – round
  • Ceiling hook
  • A pair of leather work gloves
  • Erasable market

Instructions to Follow

  1. Use an erasable marker to draw a half-circle on the 24-gauge copper sheet. Here, the copper sheet’s bottom will be the center of the circle, and the distance from the outside and the center of the circle will be the birdhouse roof’s height.
  2. Draw another half circle (1.5 inches) at the center of the previously drawn circle. It’ll work as your roof’s peak.
  3. Use metal scissors or tin snips to carefully cut out the marked circle (half). Don’t forget to wear your leather work gloves to ensure safety. Cut the inside circle as well.
  4. Make a cone shape by wrapping the copper sheet where the small end is at the top.
  5. Use the river gun to rivet the bottom edge of the sheet.
  6. Use an electric drill to make a pilot hole through the wooden disk and halfway into the wooden ball.
  7. Now place the round wooden ball in the copper cone. Make sure that the pilot hole is facing the cone’s top.
  8. Attach the ceiling hook to the wooden disk by screwing and make sure it comes out the other side.
  9. Place the wooden disk on top of the cone and screw the hook again until it gets firmly attached to the round wooden ball on the inside.
  10.  Attach the round copper roof to your birdhouse using screws, and that’s about it.
